Mojo FAQ
Short answers to the questions that show up first.
What is Mojo?
A systems language aimed at CPUs and accelerators, with Python-like syntax, static types, and compile-time metaprogramming. See the vision.
Is it a Python superset?
No. A lot of syntax matches. Classes, runtime monkey-patching, and untyped variables are not in the language today. Tips for Python devs lists the practical gaps. Calling Python libraries does work.
What license is it under?
Apache License 2.0. See License.
Which operating systems can install it?
macOS and Linux, 64-bit. See system requirements. Windows users typically use a Linux environment.
How do I install it?
uv or pixi, both documented on the install page. The current stable version is 1.1.0.
Can I write GPU kernels?
Yes. Kernels are Mojo functions. Start with GPU programming and the puzzles.
Is the standard library stable?
Some of it. Read the stability policy before you depend on a new API. Nightly builds move faster than the stable channel.
Where do I ask questions?
The forum and Discord are linked from Community. Bugs go to GitHub.
